Creates the history of a single Chronicle (city, sword, secret society) through the lives of Anchors (characters connected to it). Tightly focused compared to full Microscope — stays on one thing rather than sweeping civilizational history.

Role in The Western Horizon

Chronicle Procedure (Abbreviated)

  1. Pick Our Chronicle — The thing you’re creating history for
  2. Bookends — START and END periods (each Light or Dark)
  3. Palette — Yes/No lists for tone and content
  4. First Pass — Each player makes one Period or Event
  5. Second Pass — Each player makes one Event or Anchor

Anchors — Named characters tied to specific Periods. Show the Chronicle through their eyes. These become Residents — add a Street Magic vignette to give them a True Name.

Integration with Western Horizon

Chronicle creates → Ex Novo details (founding periods → districts, resources) Chronicle creates → Street Magic details (Anchors → Residents with true names) Chronicle creates → Beak, Feather & Bone details (events → headquarters buildings) Chronicle creates → Ex Umbra hooks (sealed temples → rumor-based dungeons)

Key Modifications for WH

  1. Abbreviated Chronicle: Set Period target (3-5 for small, 5-8 for larger), time-box sessions
  2. “Current State” as END Bookend: END isn’t destruction — it’s where the settlement is NOW
  3. Living Chronicle: Can be reopened at later tiers as the END bookend shifts
  4. Integrate with Palette: Use Palette step for campaign tone and safety tools
