If an inbox is overwhelmed, archive it in a recoverable way.

By the time you start getting organized, you’ve already accumulated thousands of bookmarks, unread emails, files in Downloads, etc. Filing all of it would be Herculean.

So don’t. Wrap all the disorganized files in a folder and throw them in an Attic folder. Archive the emails. Export bookmarks to HTML, archive the export, delete them from the browser.

Ideally you do this once, at the start.

By archiving rather than deleting, you leave open the possibility that you might someday be able to triage the old stuff.
